Ashtanga Yoga is one of the most Traditional methods of Hatha Yoga and sometimes the most mis-understood. Rumors of Ashtanga only being for the physically fit or male Indian youth have long clouded this beautiful and approachable method of Yoga. Born in Mysore, a small city in Southern India and brought to the West by Sri. K Pattabhi Jois, Ashtanga Yoga is a method which if committed to and practiced mindfully and correctly will bring great benefit to ones overall health and well-being.
Join Ekam Yoga and Wellness's owner and Ashtanga teacher, Kory Sheffer in a 6 class series dedicated to the Primary Series of Ashtanga. Over the course of the series you will learn the history and philosophy of Ashtanga Yoga and will explore the postures and methodology of the Primary Series Practice. The Primary Series or Yoga Chikitsa means Yoga Therapy. This carefully sequenced set of postures builds strength, increases flexibility and range of motion, and promotes detoxifying effects of the organs and mind.
This series is open to all levels of practitioner from total beginner to those looking to refine their ongoing practice. This is a progressive series so there will be not drop in spots available. Students will be required to commit to all 6 classes. Upon completion of this series students will be equipped with the knowledge, awareness and confidence to join any of our ongoing Ashtanga or level 1-2 classes.
